A note from the author

We put this AVMovie together (a compilation of still photos and video clips) to show off London theatres as they are seen most often by theatre goers – by night.

Thanks to Ben Shafik for his lighthearted and  informative commentary and Fionn O'Lochlainn for the original music.

Watch out for the new version with current liveries and the names of the theatres as they appear.

Baxter
The musical Buddy was conceived by Londoner Laurie Mansfield  Its terrific successl is probably because it features 20 of his hits and they are sung (and danced) with high energy and verve - and it's a way to watch music live.

The show corrected the inaccuracies of the film and, with Paul McCartney's help, in 1989 it ran for over 12 years in the west End.  It was dubbed a juke-box musical since when the West End has been alive with the sound of jukebox musicals. It has been strongly mooted that the success is also due to the public's interest in rock and roll. (not this rock and that rock).  Buddy Holly was an early progenitor of rock and roll in it's heart and essence.  This is one of those shows that has audiences on their feet. Even dancing in the aisles

There is a book book co-written by Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson

If anyone asks you what kind of music you play, tell him 'pop.' Don't tell him 'rock'n'roll' or they won't even let you in the hotel....

....Without Elvis none of us could have made it.
