This is a musical with a score
that is clever and sophisticated, in watlz time. It is is
based on the film Smiles of a Summer Night, by Ingmar Bergman.
It takes place in Sweden in the 19th Century and revolves
around affairs of the heart which are the prevailing theme of the play.
It has been called a 'stylish celebration of romance'. Story It tells of the long passion of a aging lawyer for his bride who refuses to consummate the marriage for nine years although she loves him. It centres on the affairs between the members of the house and focuses on the character - the actress Desiree Armfeldt – the tangled web of intrigue that surrounds her features the classic “Send in the Clowns”. There are many stories that unfold in a brilliantly written score. They are energetically performed. The musical line up is very impressive.
