This musical is based on the cult film of the seventies which was a spearhead in the rise of reggae with many wonderful songs full of tenderness and wisdom. Rather than it being 'an adaptation' for the stage, it is a testament to the axiom that an audience gets more from live music in this case - live with dancing. The show (shortened from previous productions) is now 2 hours and ...minutes of powerful energy that bounces back from audiences that clearly love every minute of it. Added to this is a wide  range of emotions and some wonderful humour.

The Story
A Jamaican country boy has a dream which is to get his songs recorded and into the limelight in the big city of Kingston. He meets up with his mother who had left him to be brought up by his grandmother.  she cannot accommodate him even now so he is homeless and is drawn to a gospel church where he meets Elsa his girl. The church wins a talent contest. Ivan wants to get a song recorded but the mean greedy record producer Hilton who, with the aid of two corrupt policemen, puts him on a path of being an outlaw hunted for drugs and murder. The play draws heavily on morality so as not to idealise gangsters and drugs. Ivan pays the price big time.
